University of Chicago Medicine, Master Facility Space Plan
The Center for Care and Discovery (CCD) opened in early 2013, adding 1.2M sf to the space inventory and serving as the new core of the University of Chicago Medical Center. Christner was engaged to determine project options and priorities for deployment of existing space after the opening of the CCD. The planning study addressed all three missions of the enterprise: Hospital/Clinical, Research, and Teaching.
The goal of the Master Facilities Space Plan is to align capital investment with strategic direction and to develop a 10 year capital plan for strategic investments. Specifically, the plan seeks to improve adjacencies of assignable space within the medical center campus; develop plans for underutilized space; and provide recommendations to lower operations maintenance costs.
