Blessing Hospital, Education Center
Located in a former “Big Box” retail space, the driving goal of the Blessing Hospital Education Center was to combine five departments into one shared space. These five departments include Education Services, Emergency Medical Services, School of Radiologic Technology, Blessing College of Nursing & Health Sciences, and Home Health.
The Education Center was designed to allow students to share functions, such as classrooms, computer classrooms, breakout rooms, staff break areas, skills labs and a number of simulation suites. Included in the simulation suites are patient simulation rooms configured to be identical to the patients rooms in the Blessing Hospital. Here, nursing students receive specialized instruction from a variety of patient simulators including male, female, and pediatric mannequins in addition to a birthing mother. Practicing on a variety of mannequins during the clinical experience prepares students to meet each patient’s unique needs. Instructors can program mannequins to mimic medical complications, such as uncontrolled bleeding after childbirth. After each session, instructors meet with students to discuss successes and areas for improvement.
Other learning simulators in the space include a radiology simulator, patient exam room simulator and an operating room simulator. Viewing stations allow for teachers to physically view or view through monitors.
The Education Center also houses the Home Health Department. This department has their own entrance to allow deliveries of supplies. This also allows the Home Health staff to pick up supplies for their home visits.
