Barnes-Jewish Hospital South OR Suite and Cardiothoracic ICU
St. Louis, Missouri
Christner undertook the design of this urban teaching hospital’s new and renovated 48 ORs, an intensive care unit, a cardiothoracic ICU, two pre- and post-anesthesia areas, and central sterile. The project was implemented in three phases, using available shell space to accelerate the schedule.
Operating rooms are designed to be reconfigured quickly when reassigned to new surgical specialties, incorporating a wide variety of accessible, adjustable systems that will support future needs. One such system is a flexible ceiling grid that recaptures critical floor space in the ORs by suspending equipment such as power, data, and movable light sources. The project incorporates significant new technologies, including video/data integration and a unique intraoperative MRI for neurosurgery services.
