Our History and Culture
Our staff includes architects, planners, MBA's, urban designers, landscape architects, and graphic designers. We work collaboratively in an open studio where cross-disciplinary interactions are encouraged and design pin-ups are the norm. We love solving complex problems and fervently believe that "good ideas can come from anywhere"; encouraging and empowering everyone in the office to be an active participant in the design process.
Ted Christner founded Theodore Christner & Associates in 1963. Ted was the kind of architect who saw projects that others didn't see, and then made them happen. He was a match maker between people and organizations, bringing them together to let them discover for themselves what he already knew. He was the force behind some of the most iconic projects in St. Louis - among others, approaching Forest Park Forever with the great idea of restoring the Jewel Box and turning it into a venue for special events. No matter the project, Ted was passionate about helping to preserve and enhance our community and its landmarks through smart thinking and great design.
Over the past 50+ years our name has changed several times and our leadership has transitioned into its third generation, but our dedication to St. Louis has remained. As a single-office firm, with a commitment to doing exceptional work locally, there is nothing we love more than collaborating with mission-driven institutions who are similarly committed to investing in the St. Louis region.
