At Christner, we think differently about our projects, work differently and come to unique solutions that create real change for our clients.

Career Opportunities

Our success depends on developing a strong, multi-talented staff. We offer a rich experiential base to young and mid-career professionals. To express a design voice. To advance one’s business skills. To make a mark.

We find the right fit between individual interests and professional practice needs by incorporating formal mentoring and career guidance into our practice. Our Mentor/Advocate/Advisor program connects young professionals with a leader of the firm who helps assure the broad practice opportunities needed for both design experience and business success.

We work on complex projects that demand intellectual investment and we encourage innovation. So, we make it part of our practice to go after the evidence that informs design decisions by understanding how people use and benefit from space design. We incorporate economics, demographics, and human factor research into our research explorations.

The knowledge gained through research and experience is most valuable when it is shared with others. Christner architects and planners explore trends, probe the status quo, and incorporate research into our practice. We share our findings through presentations at national conferences, client roundtables, and symposia. A number of our senior staff members are routinely invited to serve as guest critics and jurors.

We Question

Questioning expands possibilities.

We frame questions that allow us to get to the core of your vision. Then we provide the structure to turn design problems into opportunities.

We Collaborate

Ideas multiply through constructive dialogue.

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We invite you into our creative process. We listen, advise and work together toward a common goal.

We Create

Solutions begin with a creative spark.

The best solutions are those that inspire real change. They influence the way people live, work and view the world. We create environments that inspire people to be better.

Sustainable Land Lab

Sponsored by Christner and a team of partners, the Mighty Mississippians were selected last spring as one of the five winning teams in the Sustainable Land Lab Competition, organized by Washington University and the City of St. Louis. Forty-eight ideas were submitted by local teams in a contest that launched to find new ways to put empty city-owned land to better use, at relatively little cost. Each winner was awarded a two-year lease (ending 2016) on a vacant lot in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood and $5,000 in seed money to make their ideas a reality. With an approach rooted in regional history, the Mighty Mississippians are dedicated to re-imagining their vacant lot as an asset for learning and sustainability. To promote community and cultivation, the team is using this lot as a demonstration garden with native plant selections, and as a platform for educational, celebratory and exploratory cultural programs.
