Helix Center Biotech Incubator:  Plant and life science incubator designed for flexibilty

The Helix Center Biotech Incubator lab provides 33,0000 sf of wet and dry lab space and offices for bioscience research has opened its doors to St. Louis’ community of entrepreneurs and biotech innovators.  The incubator is geared toward fast-growing companies and entrepreneurs in the early stages of research in the plant and life sciences and in the commercialization of new technologies.

Sponsored by the St. Louis County Economic Council in conjunction with the Helix Fund, the Helix Center is designed to offer adaptable, affordable office and lab space to tenants, with modular flexibility to meet tenant space needs. The new lab space is viewed as a key component to recruiting and retaining small- to medium-sized plant and life science companies to the County.

The Helix Center is located in a renovated office building located in proximity to the Bio-Research and Development Growth Park and the Danforth Plant Science Center.  Christner’s design provides research space adaptable to tenant needs with access to shared support services and technical support. The project will seek LEED certification for existing buildings, with building improvements including more energy efficient systems and better daylighting.

In a recent open house event celebrating the completion of the Helix Center project, President and CEO of the St. Louis County Economic Council, Denny Coleman stated that such a facility is a step forward in working toward the implementation of Dr. Bill Danforth’s vision for the St. Louis community.  Charlie Dooley, St. Louis County Execuetive said, “To track those individulas with andvanced degrees who are really going to make a difference in the biotech industry – this is going to be very, very important.”
