Designing Healthy Town/Gown Relationships presented at SCUP
Have you ever thought about the origins of your Town/Gown Relationship? Integrated planning initiatives between higher education institutions and surrounding communities have been shown to support mutual prosperity, build relationships and create alignment. Laurel Harrington and Stacey Wehe of Christner and Benjamin Hunter of Butler University present a history of town/gown relationships, how the fates of each are inherently tied to each other, and strategies for improving your relationship. Stories of implementing an “anchor institution coalition” at Butler University include goals, lessons learned and how the university plays an important role in its city.
