Project Story

As a fast-growing general contractor and construction manager, Tarlton partnered with Christner to create a new, environmentally responsible headquarters for its 50-person staff, adjacent to its service yard. With 40% of the firm’s construction projects self-performed, many employees are routinely out in the field. So, the idea of a headquarters responsive to a ‘muddy boots’ workforce was critically important.

The Work

The headquarters is designed to be approachable, sustainable, comfortable for workers from the field, and a showpiece of construction craftsmanship.

The new facility meets LEED criteria through redevelopment of the company’s midtown urban brownfield site. Construction waste was recycled, while recycled content was addressed primarily through structural steel. Landscaping incorporates cisterns to collect rainwater for irrigation, while high efficiency fixtures reduce water use in the building itself. Highly efficient building systems meet LEED criteria for heating and cooling. Low emission materials for wall coverings, floor coverings, ceilings and other finishes and furnishings keep indoor air quality high. Windows on the north façade reduce hot, harsh south and western sunlight and bring abundant light into the building, while also controlling glare, and frame the best views from the building.

Services Provided

Our goal was to create an environment that would encourage collaboration on every level. With the help of [Christner], we’ve built a headquarters that really creates the ambiance we were after.
