St. John's Mercy Medical Center Landscape Master Plan

Site design to comprehensively address users' needs

Implementation of the landscape master plan over the last six years has involved significant site redevelopment. Dramatic changes are occurring to the vehicular circulation on campus. Incremental construction of a new campus loop road and zoned parking system were designed as part of a campus-wide wayfinding plan integrating site and building circulation. The goal is to achieve "No-fault" circulation for all visitor and users of campus, meaning that even if a visitor takes a wrong turn, they can get to their desired destination. This type of wayfinding is designed to be seamless so that indoor and outdoor spaces work together to create intuitive wayfinding. Visitors will also benefit from a new public concourse, carved out of new and existing buildings to create a north-south pedestrian link.

Redevelopment of the campus and the construction of the Cancer Center and Heart Hospital created opportunities to place emphasis on pedestrian circulation and the development of public gathering spaces. Where few outdoor amenities existed, each new facility is designed with interior lobbies and exterior plazas and gardens.
