St. John Hospital & Medical Center, Detroit

Creating long-term viability and improved patient care

St. John Hospital & Medical Center was facing a number of critical issues, particularly demographic shifts that warranted reexamination of clinical service lines offered. Christner led seven task force groups (each representing service lines) through a rigorous analysis of their goals and objectives with respect to overall hospital development. We identified burning issues that limited future development, including an inadequately sized ED, poor access to outpatient services and the need for more private rooms. Our master plan recommended solutions that create clear campus wayfinding, meet the needs of physician practices, and maintain flexibility for future campus renewal needs.
